Kenkujutsu - Japanese Cranial Therapy PDF Print E-mail

KenkuKENKUJUTSU: This literally means, 'the head and spine'. It is the name given to Amatsu's approach to balancing the cranio-sacral system.

It is an intergral part of the therapy. The head governs all movement and according to Western research, cranial imbalances affect our emotions, posture, dentition, movement, and can cause colic, restlessness and discomfort in new born babies.

Cranial balancing has been found to be useful in the treatment of arthritis, tension, dyslexia, sinusitis, pain in pregnancy, concentration, eye strain, headaches and migraine.

Shindenjutsu - Visceral and Ligament Balancing PDF Print E-mail
ShindenShindenjutsu works with the ligaments to offer support to the joints whilst gentle positioning coaxes the body towards self correction. This gentle movement orientated approach is at the heart of Amatsu.

In this approach the practitioner's palpation is directed towards the ligaments and soft tissue. The ligaments are employed to spring tensions that become locked into body structures blocking the flow of energy causing pain and discomfort. Shindenjutsu therefore balances the body's ligaments, helps restore organ motility and mobilty and improves meridian balance and restores structural integrity.

Old strains leave a footprint of the injury or illness that continues to malfunction for many years. These archaic patterns lay the foundation for many of the illnesses we encounter especially when our immune systems are lowered with stress. It is precisely these paterns that Shindenjutsu addresses.

Seitai - Japanese Osteopathy PDF Print E-mail
SetaiSetai literally means to correct the body and was very popular in Japan until the Meiji period. It focuses on freeing off any restrictions to the head and neck, the spine, the pelvis and the feet to bring about symmetry and paralateral movement. All treatments re-balance and re-alignment the person from head to toe. As a result of this, there is a boost to the immune system, a reduction in body strains and a restoration of symmetry. Seitai is the aspect of Amatsu that most closely resembles Western Osteopathy, although it is much more gentle.

Setai uses numerous techniques to restore balance to the body:

  1. Positional re-alignment through postural re-patterning
  2. Reciprocal reflex patterning
  3. Soft tissue manipulation
  4. Ligament and muscle balancing
  5. Body-mind integration.

Anma - Japanese Massage PDF Print E-mail
AnmaAnma literally means to push and pull,This approach in China was once called Amma and is now known as Tuina massage. Anma was banned in Japan in favour of western medicine during the Meiji period by the Meiji Emperors, who wanted to westernise Japan. Up until then all doctors were qualified in Anma. At some time early on in the 1900's a group of Anma trained practitioners formed Shiatsu, re-naming this approach and retaining some of its methods and techniques. With Anma, specific areas of the body are pushed and pulled to release tension and tightness, thereby restoring the normal flows of blood and lymph to promote growth, repair and restoration of normal function. The techniques involved closely resemble those used in massage, so Amatsu may be regarded as a type of remedial massage.

Below are listed some of the different aspects and techniques used in Anma.

  1. Massage techniques such as; Kneading, Percussion, Petrisage and Effleurage.
  2. Gentle stretching and unwinding of fascial restrictions,
  3. neuromuscular repatterning.
  4. Positioning and postural re-alignments.
  5. Pressure points, Accupressure.
